Tupilak

This guy is called the Tupilak. He's made up of mud, bones, sticks etc.  After you create him you say the correct prayer and off he goes to do your bidding! 

These are also for Inhabit Media. Inhabit Media is re-imagining the Inuit mythology to help preserve it for the Inuit peoples.

Bud

Bud has an odeaur of a strong asparagus piss, rotten cheese and crib sauce. He/she multiplies asexually. Has to.

Glad to be a part of this blog. It's humbling and motivating all at once. I'll post some oldies just to get me started, but I'll try and get as many new creatures in here as possible.  These are just some creatures I did for myself:

Doberas

This is a concept I did for creatures I would like to use in one of my next illustrations.
Still not a 100% convinced by their legs and would still like to try other possibilities.
C&C very welcom.

It are some kinda vampire guardian dogs for rich evil man.
Very faithful to their masters but very, very difficult to dress it impresses a lot other living beings if you have one.
Being vampirelike creatures they're capable of smelling blood(even al warm inside your body)from far.

As most of vampirelike creatures, one of the ways to kill them is to pierce the heart with a wooden stick.(or was it a silfer one?)
That's why the central part of the body is so well protected.
These protections and the materials used to make them shows very well the financial health of his owner aswell as his importance.

Their legs are often used to open the victims thorax, so they can eat the heart directly.
They've got a funny, almost ridicilous way of moving around..very jumperly, almost kangaroo like.

Cockatrice

Here's the dino-bird design I was telling Mike Corriero about. This painting's purpose is twofold. First, it satisfied my desire to paint a blunt-headed reptile, which I've had ever since viewing this dragon design by Carlo Arellano: http://chainsawart.blogspot.com/2008/03/dragons-and-demons.html. Secondly, it gave me a chance to experiment with new textures and techniques. The textures on the cheek, snout, and legs are photo overlays, but the rest of the textures are hand painted. A reference image of a turkey was particularly informative for rendering the wattle and the feathers of the chest.

The Madagascan Cockatrice, first described by the Greek zoologist Gallinicus in 503 BCE, is a medium sized non-avian theropod. When standing in its usual semi-erect position, it measures about four feet in height, and is about forty pounds in weight. It is the largest predator on Madagascar, except for the Nile crocodile. A quick and intelligent predator, it feeds on anything it can catch. Madagascan Cockatrices are normally solitary, but come together to breed around late August every year. The showy males are more brightly colored than the females, but females grow 25% larger than their mates. Both males and females take part in the raising of young, but infant mortality is high nevertheless.
Because of poaching and habitat destruction, the numbers of the Madagascan Cockatrice are dwindling. Along with the steppe Ceratopsians of northern Eurasia and the marsh Hadrosaurs of Argentina, the half dozen or so species of Cockatrices are the only surviving non-avian dinosaurs. We must take action to save these relics of a lost age.

Terror Birds and Dinosaurs

All fictional creations, none of these are actual dinosaurs or terror birds. Some of what I was doing here was mixing the idea of terror birds with the link to bipedal dinosaurs. Kind of filling in a small gap, and just playing around loosely with some ideas of dino-birds containing featherless vestigial wing-like limbs. Along with some fictional Biped Head/Busts of some Herbivore designs.

'nother n00b!

Looks like I'm in line for first posts. Davi invited me to be a part of this some time ago, but I took too long to post anything. This is a profile design drawing. I didn't intend to get caught up in the details of this, but I found myself having too much fun with it to stop. I'll see about putting this guy in action soon. I've been taking too long to get around to it, so I'll just post him as-is for now.

I want to say how impressed I am with everyone on this blog. I'm more than a smidgeon honored to be in with the likes of all of you. Cheers.

Hi all.
Davi invited me to the blog. I'm super impressed with the stuff on here! So hopefully I can keep up... But I have a passion for creatures like the rest of you. So I'll try and post frequently!

This is for Inhabit Media. The Kukilialuit. (Have fun pronouncing that!) It's a Yeti type creature from Inuit Mythology. Inhabit Media is re-imagining the Inuit mythology to help preserve it for the Inuit peoples. It's a non-profit company from Canada.

Boneman

I wasn't too crazy about the lighting or posing of this piece, but I thought that the design was kind of neat. I love creatures with bones showing or huge tusks! I love tentacles too, I had to stop myself from adding tentacles to this thing.

The Mole Dragon, scarce and rarely seen, eats a diet of giant subterranean arthropods and scavenges during times of scarcity. Has been known to cause havoc on eccentric wizards' lawns when population numbers rise every few decades.

Been busy lately but this was an old sketch I wanted to paint. :) even though its sketchy I hope its ok!

BioMagneton

BioMagneton is an African beetle god. She creates around her a magnetic field so powerful it attacts living matter. When visible she can be seen moving across the open plains in a whirlwind of dust and animals, holding her mighty breasts and laughing.

Some Halo Wars creatures!

I was recently asked to add to this awesome creature blog. I love to create creatures and I think that this is a perfect forum for doing that. Some very inspirational work out here and I'm really flattered to have been invited. Anyway, I've been pretty busy and haven't had a lot of spare time so for now I'll post some "oldies" that were conceptualized for Halo Wars but I'm really excited about contributing here, so I promise to have some new images to post in the next week or so. Water Based Weevil + Crustacean 2

Based off of "tiny" rough thumbnails, here is one crustacean-like critter that very loosely resemble "Metroids" while the other one is a kind of bipedal water based weevil of sorts, a bit of an elemental. Just playing around with the color on that one and the watery texture and highlights.

Crustacean + Sketchbook page

An upright Crustacean-like creature based off of hermit crabs. Based on a very quick, small, rough sketch and playing around with a swirl of color found within the exoskeleton. There is also a page worht of creature thumbnails each with a real world animal kept in mind when having designed them.

Sonagama

Here's the latest image I've made for Creature of the Week on Conceptart.org. The topic was "Feeds on Sound."
The complete description that I wrote to accompany the image:
It has been known sense prehistory that sound, especially voice, holds special powers in our world. Indeed, many scholars believe that our ability to manipulate sound at a high level of complexity is what allowed our race, when it was young, to triumph over all other species of animal and attain civilization. Through sound, we not only communicate and use language, but also cast spells, charms, incantations, and make use of any number of other Vocal Powers.
In early days, it was believed that man alone had the use of the Vocal Powers. However, in this new age of science and exploration, it has been discovered that many other creatures have magical abilities, though few are as well-developed in their use of these powers as man. One creature with surprising magic abilities is the Sonagama. Lean, quick-moving reptiles as large as a small man, the Sonagama has developed an ability similar to the magical power known as soundleeching. Using this power, it draws all sound in its environment towards itself, just as a powerful magnet attracts metal objects. Using its fantastically enlarged cheek-flaps, this sound is funneled into its mouth, and through a number of both physiological and magical adaptations this sound is converted is converted into pure energy, and it is this energy on which the Sonagama lives. The creature literally eats sound.
Now, let us discuss the natural history of the Sonagama, as far as our current state of knowledge allows. As mentioned, the Sonagama is a reptile, specifically a lizard related to the agamas, hence its name. It is large, with long, muscular limbs that allow it to both run at great speed as well as rear up on its hind limbs to nearly the hight of a man. Its skull is highly modified, with long quadrate bones allowing it to achieve a terrific gape when opening its mouth--the large the mouth, the better ability to consume sound, apparently. Its enormous cheek flaps--the most remarkable physical characteristic of the species--are supported by highly modified palate and hyoid bones, which swing outward from the jaws to hold the flaps rigid. When the mouth is closed, these bones are folded against the sides of the head and neck, with the cheek flaps hanging like curtains around the throat and shoulders. The cheek flaps themselves serve two functions. Firstly, they assist with funneling sound into the creature's throat, much like our ears funnel sound into the skull. Secondly, they make the creatures seem tremendously larger and more intimidating than they actually are, a useful tactic both for establishing dominance within the species and for frightening away potential predators. The Sonagama shares its habitat with a number of species that have rudimentary Vocal Powers. These creatures seem to be the preferred "prey" of the Sonagama, for magical sound obviously contains more energy than normal sound. However, in a pinch, any form of sound will sustain the Sonagama. When the Sonagama deploys its soundleeching powers, the world around it grows suddenly silent, with even the loudest noises seeming to become muffled and distant. Vocal Powers become useless when in the presence of a Sonagama, for the sound is absorbed before it can have any magical effect. For this reason, tamed Sonagamas have become popular guard animals for those who wish to protect themselves from malicious Vocal attacks.
