Beautiful painting as usual, Simon. I love the combination of features that the creature has. I see a bit of monarch butterfly, fish, cephalopod, kelp, spider, etc. I like how most of its sensory and manipulative organs are concentrated on the frontmost segment of its body. The storytelling aspect is great, too. Very mysterious.
Again, I must comment on the way you paint the noisy, naturalistic textures of rocks and vegetation and such. You do it so tastefully and so well. Can you share any tips with us on how you achieved those textures?

Thanks v much everyone, appreciated :) Moai - I wish I had some good texture tips but the truth is I just scribble away until it looks right! I find it helps using an oil brush you can "dirty" with other colours already on the canvas, and also not taking too much care over what colour I use, which gives a bit of painterly variation. I wish I could think of more to say!

Only thing really holding this piece back is the figure is on a lower level than the rest of the image :<

aside from that it's a killer :D
